Three Scandinavian Kingdoms
Departing 08-Sep-2010
to 29-Sep-2010
Dramatically poised at the top end of the world, Scandinavia is still an exotic destination. The compact, manageable cities, the towns and villages of each Nordic country, the people with their distinctive heritage and social organisation, the pristine and spectacular natural beauty, all combine to provide an interesting and worthwhile focus for the traveller.
We start in wonderful Copenhagen, a city of instant magic and history but with a distinctive modern vitality. Charming villages and castles of the green Danish countryside create a fairytale atmosphere contrasting with fierce images of Viking hordes. Our tour includes Hans Andersen's island of Fyn and the delightful Jutland peninsula with its beautiful farms, forests and beaches.
Crossing from gentle Denmark to the spectacular natural world of Norway, we visit the snout of a glacier, cruise fjords and travel on one of the world's most famous mountain railways. Grieg's home, Vigeland Park and Thor Heyerdahl's Kon Tiki raft vie with the great Vikin Ship Museum in Oslo to create lasting impressions. Our traverse from Oslo to Stockholm, with vast forests, lakes and rivers, will introduce the Swedish landscape, and is where our program concludes with a three night stop.
Denmark, Norway and Sweden: these are the lands of fairytales, trolls and Vikings. Exciting and safe to visit, Scandinavia offers much to learn and enjoy from people whose live are so different from our own in Australia.
