Mali and Senegal

Departing 15-Oct-2010 to 30-Oct-2010

Mali and Senegal offer two unique faces of West Africa. Both countries are steeped in history and both, due to their location, have developed in different ways.

Anyone who has made the effort to get to Mali has always come away impressed. The country is largely traditional and home to several distinct cultures and it is also home to great music, fascinating landscapes and memorable sights such as Djenne, the Niger River and Timbuktu. On this tour we will visit the country of the Dogon who live in villages perched beneath the towering Bandiagara Cliffs - as well as walking in the footsteps of many a traveler in legendary Timbuktu - for once a fabled location that, in a humble way, doesn’t disappoint.

Senegal has the advantage of an extraordinary ecosystem owing to its position at the junction of oceanic, desert and tropical climates. From pure sand beaches to the borders of the savanna, and from the rainy Fouta Djalon foothills to the edge of the Sahara desert, there is much varied scenery in Senegal. Beyond the country’s natural beauty, you will also discover typical colonial architecture in towns like Dakar and Saint Louis. And we cannot visit Senegal without visiting Goree Island with its history deeply marked by the slave trade.  This trip mixes history, nature and culture as we invite you to experience the hidden charms of a wonderful region of Africa.
