European Summer Music Tour (Australian Chamber Orchestra)

Welcome to our European Summer Tour which spans five countries - Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany and Slovenia. We feature three concerts by the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) as part of its tour of the U.S and European music festivals. This acclaimed orchestra under its inspirational Artistic Director Richard Tognetti will present as soloists two internationally renowned musicians - the distinguished British-born cellist Steven Isserlis and the outstanding young Austrian pianist Till Fellner. There will be opera and concerts at major music festivals not visited on previous Alumni Travel tours - the ACO will perform at the Rheingau Festival in Germany, the Roque d'Antheron International Piano Festival in the Provence, France; and at the Maribor Festival in Slovenia where they will give the opening concert with Richard Tognetti, the Maribor Festival Artisitic Director.

In addition we will visit Lucerne for two concerts at its prestigious Music Festival and our tour will be book-ended by two major events in Austria- the opera Aida on the floating stage at the Bergenz Festival, and the Grafenegg Music Festival in the grounds of Schloss Grafenegg outside Vienna with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under direction of its chief conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, as part of its UK/European concert tour.

If there is a theme for this tour it could be lakes, rivers and vineyards as our tour encompasses Lake Constance, Lake Geneva and Lake Lucerne; the Rhone, Rhine and Danube rivers; and wine-growing regions along the Rhine in Germany.

Summer in Europe is festival time especially for concerts and operas and this tour promises an abundance of rich and rewarding musical experiences.
