At the crossroads of civilisation since the dawn of time, Turkey is the site of Homer's Troy and other great cities of the classic periods of Ionian Greece, Roman and Byzantine periods. You will see castles built by the Crusaders, caravanserais from Seljuk and Ottoman times and the poignant battlefields of Gallipoli.

During our discovery of Turkey, there will be time to talk to many Turkish people, to visit their villages and homes, to enjoy their music and dance, to see at first-hand the workmanship of their skilled artists, and to discover a little of the rich cultural life of this fabulous country.

There are no early morning starts to the day, or quick overnight stops. We stay at comfortable hotels in the centre of town, usually for two or three nights, each personally selected as representing some aspect of Turkish life. Meals are excellent, there are no hidden options and guides have been specifically selected. All entry fees and tipping for hotels and restaurants (for the group) and included, dress is casual and there are always special suprises along the way.

Underground and underwater cities, basilicas and mosques, sophisticated cities as well as simple but charming villages, vie with each other to attract the attention of the traveller who will be fascinated by the magnificent works of art, gold, leather and silk articles. Your Tour Leader: Grethe Knudsen, former teacher and university lecturer, has travelled widely throughout her life and since 1989 has led groups to interesting areas of Turkey, Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Author of several books, Grethe has also written scripts for radio and television. Her excellent organisation, good humour, energy and vast knowledge of Turkey will contribute to a memorable travel experience and many travellers choose to participate regularly on her various programs. Assisting are excellent professional guides and coach driver, a close team who have worked with Grethe on her tours in Turkey for twenty successive years.
