April in ParisWith Dr Aedeen Credin03-24 April 2009A slow food tour of France which follows the sun to reach Paris as spring breaks out all over the boulevards and quays. We shall walk in the footsteps of poets, peasants, popes, princes and even a couple of emperors: our tour will follow the development of French history and culture, from Roman Gaul to Napoleon's Empire. We start our trip in Provence, and work north along the Rhone valley, through Burgundy to Paris, experiencing many art treasures, lovely landscapes and delicious food. Scholarship will be taken lightly and we shall visit special places off the beaten track, such as the 15,000 year-old painted cave of Grotte Chauvet, in the Ardeche national park, or the Celtic hillfort of Bibracte in the Morvan park. Briefing notes issued ahead of time will include information on local food and crafts, as well as on history and art. In Paris we shall visit major museums and have a day trip to Malmaison, but there will be plenty of free time for shopping or just walking around the Latin Quarter, near our hotel. If you have a special interest, please let us know and we'll attempt to find it. Your Tour Leader: Dr Aedeen Credin was educated in France and Ireland and was taught at the Sorbonne.
