What a relief to escape the oppressive humidity of the mainland and enjoy a week in Tasmania, sampling the delights of the islands food and wine and of course the highlight weekend package at Epsom House listening to the Seraphim Trio performing Beethoven’s piano trio cycle. The delicious tension achieved with the perfect sound in the upstairs “assembly room”, together with the resulting intimacy of the performance was palpable.
While we toured some of the architectural and natural beauty of the Hobart area, I could see members of our tour group huddled with our host, Stephen Block, down the front of the bus. Seems that they want to do it again! The result is that Stephen has put together a houses and gardens tour of both Launceston and Hobart, culminating in another Epsom House musical delight, this time with the early music specialists Ironwood, performing works by Josef Haydn and his contemporaries. This is scheduled for October this year.
